Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre is the host venue for the Community Media Centre 2012 project.
Community Media Centre 2012 - The original aim was to ‘establish the UK’s largest independent media hub in 2012‘ at the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre. Since launching on 17th January the busy programme of 20 events over 12 months has included the docfilm and Aniscape animation festivals.
Every Tuesday, the Community News Cafe hosted at the Coffee Republic store on Granby Street provides volunteer Community Reporters the opportunity to share their ideas and gain details of upcoming opportunities as part of the cmc2012 project. The excitement is definitely building as we approach the Olympics and Paralympics in little over 100 days. Our 4th Community Media Week 6-12th June will be packed with free community media training sessions and the opportunity to report on events throughout National Volunteer Week. This is your opportunity to find out about being a Community Reporter to cover what YOU are doing throughout 2012.
Tuesday 17th January saw the opening event of the Citizens Eye cmc2012 project. Between 12-2pm the Screen Lounge of the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre was host to partners and volunteer community reporters as they mark the start of an exciting 12 months of activities, events and training. We are proud that the 3 times Gold Medal winning Paralympian, Kenny ‘Mooseman’ Churchill was able to officially open the event at 12.30pm.
The showcase highlighted 4 years of the Citizens Eye journey through big events like Special Olympics 2009 and also looked forward to high profile moments in the cmc2012 program that included the 2nd DocFilm Festival 20-22nd January and the community media centres being run during the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
The cmc2012 partners were on hand to discuss their specific roles throughout the 12 months including Cuttlefish, who recently developed the Citizens Eye iphone app. FD2D discussed their lead role in the new Leicester Media Network and they hosted the first free workshop. Two projects that form part of the Cultural Olympics The Journals and somewhereto_ showcased the talents of local young people.
The aim is to ‘establish the UK’s largest independent media hub in 2012‘.
Regular use will be made of partner venues like Adult Education, Libraries, Coffee Republic, Crumblin Cookie, etc.
