She has invited Citizens Eye to visit and see the work they do with community groups but in the meantime wanted to draw your attention to their excellent website and the Project Gallery section in particular.

Their Home Page says:

“We carry out projects with community groups who have something to say and need a way to say it.

We are committed to working with groups of under-represented people to enable them to express themselves through discussion, creative group work and skills development. We enable participants in projects to build the confidence to present their ideas using a range of arts based media, with a view to effecting positive change.”

City Cllr Rory Palmer asked us to have a look at eyresmonsell.com which is serving the local community.

The site is simple to navigate and has the potential for offering local community news. The front page says:

“Welcome to eyresmonsell.com a local website for local people. Here you can find lots of information about our local area and links to different agencies who work with or provide services for local people.”

Editor: The line at the bottom of the Home Page says “If you have any suggestions or comments about the site, please be gentle as it is designed and maintained by volunteers.”

I think it should say “If you have any suggestions or comments about this site, please GET INVOLVED!!”

Well done to the volunteers who have built the website.

Citizens Eye will be starting its “Citizen Reporter” volunteer training shortly and we hope to match a volunteer from the Eyres Monsell area with the website team to create the community news.

A campaign to ensure every member of the public knows the name of their local beat officer and PCSO was launched Monday March 17th.

The national campaign - ‘A Name for Every Neighbourhood - Keeping the Promise‘ runs from 17 - 29 March, 2008, and celebrates the implementation of neighbourhood policing across the country.

Leicestershire Constabulary implemented neighbourhood policing in February 2006, ahead of the Government’s deadline of March 2008.

Consequently, every one of the 106 neighbourhoods in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland now has at least one dedicated beat officer, supported by police community support officers (PCSOs) and members of the Special Constabulary.

Editor: Citizens Eye online research has found another good example of a community run website, this time it’s focused on Enderby. Citizens Journalism in action. Please take the opportunity to read through their site.

What does Enderby EYE hope to achieve?

Enderby EYE seeks to aggregate as much contemporary information as possible about Enderby and provide a resource for those wishing to foster community spirit within the village, as well as former residents who would like to keep ‘in touch’.

The site is produced, updated and maintained by volunteer effort and exists to help promote awareness of, and active participation in, local events and initiatives.

Whilst the focus is on developing a modern awareness of the community, we hope that over time we will also be able to illustrate something of Enderby’s history.

With all aspects of the website we value supporters’ contributions in terms of news, anecdotes and photos, etc.
