From Harry Perry:
The last edition has already generated several responses so it’s great to see the journal is being read and stimulating debate! We’re now on the run in to the March edition and so I’m once again inviting you to submit items for publication.
The deadline for March is 12 noon on Thursday 21st March. That’s just seven days away as I write so please let me have your contributions asap (or let me know that something will be on its way soon). Thanks to those who’ve already sent stuff in.Comments on past articles are always welcome so if you want a reminder of last month’s content visit this page which will allow access to the last and all previous editions: http://www.leicestersecularsociety.org.uk/newsletter/index.phpIdeas for articles for this month:
Outstanding event reviews please!
The media obsession with the new Pope. Are we bovvered?
Anyone want to tackle the diversity of Leicester’s Muslims? Are Islamists present in Leicester or not?
Can the local Anglican Church get any more from the City? Schools, Guildhall, £1.5m Cathedral Gardens, Richard III’s bones, etc. Will it never end?
Also, a reminder, as ever, of what else you might put forward:· Local news of secular interest· Odd bits of national or international news that have gone unreported in the national secular journals· Your opinions on the big issues of the day· Secular jokes· Secular cartoons· Poetry – with licence· Secular tourist reports from your travels· Reviews of events at the Hall· Puzzles – please offer a prize alongside· Thoughts for the day· Historical· Philosophical· Book reviews· Opinion pieces· Letters· Take apart a religious doctrine· Critique one of the Mercury’s religious First Person articles· Secular items for the Forthcoming Events box· Suggestions for Society action Or, of course, anything we haven’t thought of yet that you think could be of interest to our members and friends.
I look forward to receiving your offerings. An across the board limit of around 700 words applies. Anything longer will either be edited down or, if it’s serious stuff, may get the two-page centre-spread position – or could even be turned into a series. Images are very welcome.
Send it all to me at: harry.perry1@btinternet.com or by post (in good time) to the Hall (e.g. if there’s a photo or cartoon that you can’t scan to file). The Hall address is: Secular Hall, 75 Humberstone Gate, Leicester LE1 1WB
