From Citizens’ Eye:
The launch of the Action Homeless and Citizen598 ‘Home Truths’ exhibition takes place at LCB Depot on Monday March 11 2013 between 2-4pm. The exhibition is free and open to the public from 9am – 5.30pm until Thursday 28th March.
Action Homeless, in partnership with Citizen598, were awarded £5,300 from the Big Lottery Fund through the Awards for All grant programme to deliver ‘Home Truths’ – a project to bring a range of community groups and organisations together and to challenge the perceptions of homelessness.
The Home Truths exhibition aims to tackle misconceptions about homeless people by serving as a platform for the personal thoughts, opinions and ideas generated from engaging the local community through a series of workshops and consultations.
Home Truths showcases work produced by Action Homeless residents in response to the views of the local community and gives an opportunity for them to tell their own personal story about their experience of homelessness, using the arts as a vehicle for expression.
The exhibition will be a live space open to the public where audio, visual and digital pieces will be displayed with visitors being encouraged to continually add to the project.
Eilidh Kennedy of Action Homeless said ‘As well as raising awareness of an important issue in Leicester, Home Truths will be providing fantastic opportunities for homeless people to tell their story, gain new skills and develop their self confidence.’
Nathan Human, Director of Citizen598 said “This project offers a great opportunity for different communities to work together to produce something exciting that will not only be artistically interesting but also build practical skills for service users of Action Homeless. As a company we like to help present people’s stories and Home Truths is the opportunity to do just that on a large scale and involve the public too.”
The Home Truths exhibition will be displayed in the LCB Depot Gallery, 31 Rutland Street from Monday 4th – Thursday 28th March.
