DMU Cultural Exchanges Festival to host media industry event

Students and graduates hoping to develop media careers are invited to a free event with some of Leicester’s industry professionals in March.

The in-depth discussion for emerging graduates looking to break in to the media will be held during De Montfort University’s Cultural Exchange festival on 1 March 2013.

Now in its 12th year, the festival originally started as a one-off celebratory event and attracts more than 4000 visitors per year, cementing its place as a key part of Leicester’s cultural calendar.

Grayson Perry, artist and Turner Prize winner who took part in the festival in 2010, said: “I had a very good time at Cultural Exchanges I had a full house! You can’t do better than that!”

Called Media Bomb, the event will include some of Leicester’s most influential media professionals. Panellists include Sarah Levitt (Head of Arts, Leicester City Council), John Coster (Founder of Citizen Eye) and Jamie Mollart (Director of RKH advertising agency). The event will give budding media students the chance to ask questions relating to the current status of today’s media sector and the potential work opportunities after graduation.

The event is a collaborative effort by Creative Media students at De Montfort University. The module has been facilitated by Seed Creativity, the founders of From Dusk 2 Dawn magazine and website www.fd2d.com, providing a key insight into the local media industry and a valuable resource for the team.

The Cultural Exchanges festival takes place between 25 February and 1 March 2013, with Media Bomb held on 1 March between 4pm-6pm in the Clephan Building on the DMU campus. Informal networking drinks will be held at The Font pub after the event.
