From Shelter

by David Brazier:

Please read and sign the Petition about an imminent threat to services for homeless people in Leicester. The petition closes in 3 days time!

The Petition says:“We the undersigned petition the Council to do everything it can to prevent homelessness in the City and in particular to maintain :- Its support for all the local charities that help homeless people in Leicester – The number of available bed-spaces for homeless people in Leicester – The existing budget for services for homeless people”

In November 2012 the city council published it’s draft Homelessness Strategy and delivery proposals for 2013-2018.

The delivery proposals include reducing the budget by 33% or £2.2 million over the next two years. This proposed reduction is in addition to a 28% reduction already agreed for the last two years.

The draft Delivery proposals involve a reduction in hostel bed spaces from 443 to 200 a cut of over 50%.This ePetition runs from 10/01/2013 to 14/02/2013.

449 people have signed this ePetition.

If we can get 1,500 people who live or work in Leicester to sign it will get debated by the full Council Meeting. Even a few hundred signatures would be more than most local petitions and would be useful in the debate about the Draft Homelessness Strategy and Delivery Proposals.

So please circulate it widely to all your contacts who might be interested in signing it. I think that lots of people signing it who are homeless or ex-homeless would be particularly effective.

We need it to go viral!!
