Curve Celebrates Chinese New Year thumbnail

This February, Curve invites you to welcome in the Chinese New Year with a vibrant mix of free events  and a special exhibition from artist and writer Lynne Howarth.

The programme is curated by Suba Das, Curve’s Associate Director, Community Engagement.

A week of activities will include opportunities to celebrate and participate in diverse aspects of Chinese culture, from the mystical and beautiful art of calligraphy to an intensive Kung Fu session.  The festivities will conclude with a spectacular and colourful Chinese Lion Dance in the Curve foyer. These events will be complemented by Drawn Notes From Another Place, Lynne Howarth’s exhibition which combines techniques and cultural thinking associated with Western and Chinese art.

The drawings and paintings included in this exhibition were made while Lynne was living and working in Ningbo and Shanghai between 2005 and 2010, and bring together botanical illustration techniques with fine art aesthetics.

Suba Das said:‘We are going to be working with some fantastic artists and practitioners to fill the building with the vitality and spectacle of the Chinese New Year celebrations.  We look forward to welcoming the community of Leicester into Curve to share in the festivities.’
