New Student Nights at Leicester Phoenix Cinema

Phoenix cinema is giving students from DMU and the University of Leicester’s film societies the opportunity to programme their own films at twice-monthly student evenings starting in February.

In the theme of ‘award winners’, the first film – chosen by DMU students – will be Quentin Tarantino’s crime classic Pulp Fiction, screening at 8.30pm on Tuesday 5th February.

It will be followed by Sam Mendes’ American Beauty, selected by the University of Leicester students, on Tuesday 26th February at 8.30pm. 

The two societies will continue to take it in turn to programme their film choices – according to an agreed monthly theme – on the first and third Tuesday of every month, working closely with Phoenix’s film programmer Jake Harvey.  Students will benefit from £5 cinema tickets and 10% off food and drink in the popular Phoenix Café Bar. The screenings will be open to all customers and will run alongside the regular Phoenix film programme.

“As a film society, we’re really looking forward to the opportunity to programme and enjoy some of our favourite films on the big screen at Phoenix,” said Kieran Chauhan, Chairman of the DMU Film Society. “Being able to work alongside the University of Leicester’s film society means we get the chance to enjoy a little friendly rivalry – which uni’s films will draw the biggest audience?”
