In Leicestershire between February 18 and 22 the annual ‘Stop and Tell’ campaign is being held to raise awareness and encourage people to report hate incidents. Each year the campaign has a particular focus and this year’s is hate incidents against people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgendered (LGBT).

Hate incidents can be physical, written or verbal abuse and anyone can be a victim if they feel they have been targeted because of their age, disability, gender, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation.

Incidents of hate should not be tolerated, and everyone who lives, works in or visits Leicestershire has the right to be treated with dignity and respect and to live without fear of hatred.

The awareness campaign is being co-ordinated by Leicestershire County Council in partnership with Leicester LGBT Centre, the District and Borough Councils, Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. A range of awareness events such as displays at local Councils and libraries, training for staff, school assemblies and awareness road
shows plus much more will be happening across Leicestershire.
