As part of Domestic Abuse Awareness Week this year Living Without Abuse is launching their new mobile phone app for young people, RU Safe? The app is designed to help young people to understand if they are experiencing domestic abuse in their home or in their personal relationships.

RU Safe? also provides information and advice about the different types of abuse, early warning signs, how to keep themselves safe, safe use of technology and how to help a friend. It also directs young people to further support from national helplines and websites.

Young people are experiencing extremely high levels of domestic abuse within their own intimate relationships, with teenage girls being the group most at risk of being abused. In the home it is estimated that in 90% of incidents involving domestic abuse, the children are in the same or the next room.
Debbie Hughes from Living Without Abuse said “It is really important that we reach out to these young people in a way that is accessible to them, to help them understand what is okay, what is not and where they can get help”.

RU Safe? is available as a free download for android and for iphones, it is also viewable as a mobile friendly website at www.r-u-safe.co.uk. Links to the downloads can be found on LWA’s website www.lwa.org.uk
