Belgrave Hall Museum & Gardens is looking to drum up public support for
its bid to host a special Museums at Night event as part of a national
competition.
The Leicester museum is pitched against Brunel’s SS Great Britain and
Caithness Horizons in the Connect10 Museums at Night competition.
Public votes are being collected in an online poll, and the winning
venue will stage a one-off installation from Bompas & Parr, the
Jellymongers, who create spectacular culinary experiences ranging from
architectural jellies to lakes of cocktails.
Valerie Hartley, Leicester City Council museums officer, said:
“Historic records tell of a spectacular jelly made with a Belgrave
mould, where coloured spirals could be seen inside the glowing jelly.
Bompas and Parr would recreate that jelly in the gardens of the
beautiful 300-year-old Belgrave Hall, beneath the ancient yew trees.
“We need Leicester to get behind our bid to make this amazing
installation a reality and bring a night of jelly-based fun to Belgrave
Hall.”

Voting closes on Monday, March 5. The winning venues will host the
performances during national Museums at Night weekend from May 18 to
20.
