Parents and carers of Year 2 children currently in one of Leicester’s infant schools are being reminded that they need to apply now for a place at a junior school for September.
All parents and carers have been sent application packs and information by the School Admissions Service so they can apply for places before the closing date of March 30, 2012.
Applications must be submitted for all infants school children, as there is no automatic right for any child to transfer from an infants school to a junior school.
Late applications, received after the closing date, will be considered after all the other ones have been dealt with, so might not result in parents getting the places they want.
Decision letters will be sent to parents and carers during the week beginning May 7.
Full details of how to complete applications and where to go for help are contained within the Transfer to Junior School Pamphlet, which has been sent to all relevant parents and carers.
Applications can also be done on-line by visiting www.leicester.gov.uk/admissionsonline
Leicester assistant city mayor responsible for children, young people and schools, Cllr Vi Dempster, said: “It is very important that parents and carers get their applications in on time so their children stand the best chance of getting into the junior schools of their choice.
“I’d encourage all parents and carers of children who are due to move from infants to junior schools to ensure they take advantage of all the help and information on offer to complete their applications.”
