Leicestershire County Council and its partners are working hard to improve care for people with dementia.
It is being reported that the Alzheimer’s Society says there are 33,000 people who are undiagnosed in the region.
A new dementia strategy has been developed and launched by the county council and its partners including Leicester City Council, Rutland County Council and NHS commissioners.
A key part of the strategy is to improve early diagnosis, which will help to tackle the number of people who are undiagnosed.
The strategy also aims to improve experiences of hospital care, improve care in residential and nursing homes, and improve care for people with dementia in the community.
David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said: “Tackling dementia, including ensuring we do everything we can to diagnose people early, is a key priority.
“Our dementia strategy will help to improve this as partners work together in a more coordinated and efficient way.”
