Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Launched in Leicestershire thumbnail

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Launched in Leicestershire 2012 marks 60 years of The Queen’s reign and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Leicester and Leicestershire were launched on Wednesday, January 11th by the Lord-Lieutenant, Lady Gretton, with the help of children from Hazel Primary School. Two major initiatives supported by Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council were launched at the event:
·         The Jubilee painting competition for school children across Leicester and Leicestershire. The competition will have three categories and be open to children in the age ranges 7 and under, 9 and under and 11 and under.
·         The Lord-Lieutenant’s Diamond Jubilee Awards. A total of 60 Diamond Jubilee awards will be made in Leicester and Leicestershire during 2012, one for each of the sixty years of Her Majesty’s reign.
The awards are to recognise examples where people are working as a team, and volunteering their time and energies, to enhance their community. Nominations can be made by the group themselves or by someone in the community who thinks a particular group deserves this recognition.
