Its Even Easier To Get Involved Now

Editor – It’s the first day of Citizens’ Eye’s 5th year so I’ve introduced a few new sessions to provide more opportunities for people to get involved.

If you want to find out about becoming a volunteer Community Reporter you should drop in at the Adult Education building (former Library) on Belvoir Street. Head to the ‘Community News Point‘ set up by Citizens Eye with lots of information on display including magazines and leaflets from across the city. A volunteer is there every Thursday between 4.30-5.30pm to answer questions you may have.

After the success of the ‘Community Newsroom‘ covering the protests last Saturday we will be running a newsroom again on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Join us in the Central Library Annex between 10am-1pm. The first one is on Saturday 17th March – more details editor@citizenseye.org

What is the Community Newsroom for? Why not drop in details of your own event or training / FREE training on social media eg facebook, twitter, blogging etc / FREE support for your own community media project eg newsletter, blog etc / Register for Newsnet and access online toolkits etc.

Somethings don’t change as they work well and one of the best is our Community News Cafe model. We meet every week on Tuesday’s 9.30-10.30am in the Coffee Republic shop on Granby Street. Everyone is welcome to join the volunteer community reporters discussing upcoming events, projects and training.

On the ‘About’ tab you will find useful information for anyone thinking of becoming a Citizen Journalist and I would recommend everyone to register for Newsnet (logo on bottom right of home page) an excellent new online portal about citizens journalism.
