Braunstone parkrun round-up (week 67), 28 January 2012
Braunstone parkrun played host to the latest parkrun at the weekend (28 January) and saw 131 runners complete the weekly, timed, 5k race.
Making just his second appearance, Rob Sheen was the eventual winner of the 67th race of the series. The Leicester Coritanian crossed the line in 17:01, just four seconds shy of the time that saw him take second place on his debut in December.
Jason Brotherhood recorded a personal best time of 17:20 to claim the runner-up spot in his 17th outing. The Hinckley RC man, a winner previously in both the Braunstone and Conkers parkruns, took 15 seconds off his previous quickest time for the course to record his fourth top three finish.
A single second separated Brotherhood from Richard Billington of Desford Striders in third place who was completing his 15th parkrun. The previous winner secured his sixth top three finish in the process.
Four-time runner Gina Wilson of Lewes AC improved her course best time by a second, crossing the line in 18:55 to claim her second win at Braunstone.
Gina Vaughan, herself a winner on five previous occasions, ran home in 20:17 to take second place. The Leicester Tri Club runner has now recorded top three finishes in each of her ten parkrun appearances.
Jolanta Gibes took three seconds off the PB she set in November to take third place in her 40th run. The Braunstone parkrun veteran ran home in 20:41 to notch up her 18th top three finish.
Seb Wheeler was the first home in the under 15s category. The junior crossed the line in 21:53 to round off a very impressive parkrun debut.
The Braunstone parkrun men’s course record, set in week 58 by Blackheath & Bromley Harriers athlete James Poole, still stands at 15:08. The ladies’ course best of 16:15 set in week 19 by GB Olympian, Lisa Dobriskey, also remains unbeaten.
The 68th race of the series takes place next Saturday (4 February), starting at 9am in front of the old stable block at Braunstone Park. The race is free to enter but first-time runners must register beforehand online at www.parkrun.org.uk/braunstone.
