By Andrew Punshon:
Leicester MP Jon Ashworth discovered firsthand about all of the good work carried out by Giving World Online when he visited our headquarters.
Mr Ashworth , who represents the Leicester South constituency for Labour, was elected to Parliament last year after his predecessor Sir Peter Soulsby stepped down to run for the Mayor’s office.
He was previously a former advisor to Gordon Brown and served as head of party relations for Ed Miliband.
Mr Ashworth, who met Directors Rama and Sujata Bhalla and staff at the Burley’s Way Headquarters, said: “Giving World Online is an impressive organisation doing such important work in our community.
‘’It is a scandal that there is so much waste created in our society that can be put to good use and that’s why Giving World Online is so fantastic.
“We need more businesses and public organisations to register with Giving World Online as possible at www.givingworldonline.com.”
Mr Ashworth heard about how the not for profit charity matches businesses who have a surplus of stock with charities who want them through its free online service.
He also saw the new sign displayed outside the charity’s base, as well as hearing how Giving World plans to develop over the coming months.
Brian Langton, Giving World Online’s Project Officer arranged the visit, and said: “I am delighted that Jon managed to fit us into a very busy schedule, and we were delighted that he was impressed with what he saw.
“Jon Ashworth’s visit to Giving World Online was a major boost for our charity and we look forward to working with Jon in the following phases of the project”
