Green Light – Leicester Festival of Sustainable Living
The second Green Light Festival is set to make a splash again this year with an even bigger and better contribution towards helping Leicester go green. The event is scheduled to take place at DeMontfort University’s Queen’s Building on Saturday 31st March.
Last year’s inaugural festival attracted more than a thousand visitors. This year organisers are hoping to exceed that number as Leicester starts to gear up to combat climate change and live more sustainably.
Once more, the festival will be packed with information and advice as well as lots of festival fun. There will be talks and discussions, films, information stalls, hands-on activities, food and music.
From guerrilla gardening to green enterprise, from craft workshops to carbon reduction strategies, the Green Light Festival will have something for everyone. There will also be eco-fun for children and young people as well as a range of showcases and seminars that will interest businesses. A particular highlight of this year’s event will be the sustainable craft gallery showcasing art that, quite literally, doesn’t cost the earth.
The festival is co-organised by Transition Leicester and Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire with the assistance of many volunteers from the local community and DeMontfort University students.
Festival co-organiser Chris Shaw said “We think that living sustainably offers a great chance to not only help the planet and cut our consumption of fossil fuels, but to also improve the quality of life in our local communities. We’re organising Green Light once again to celebrate all the great work that’s happening in Leicester and to inspire people to get active in their communities, at work and in their everyday lives.”
