An inspirational youngster has launched an online petition to get disability awareness placed on the school curriculum.
Paige Murray who suffers from cerebral palsy has has devoted much of her free time to highlighting the experience of disabled youngsters through a range of activities and projects such as the Streetvibe Youth Inclusion Project and Braunstone’s Youth Panel. In 2010 Paige received the Honoured Citizen Award from the Lord Mayor in acknowledgement of her achievements. Paige is also a member of the Big Mouth Forum a group which gives disabled young people a voice so that they can discuss the issues that matter to them.
Paige said “Disability awareness as been overlooked as a priority for far too long. If children were educated to understand the differences and needs of those who experirence difficultes, less bullying would occur and society would be more accepting of the social model of disability. I would like to see disability awareness taught in all schools across the UK and call upon the government to include this as part of the school curriculum. Please help me make this a reality and society a better place for all.”
