Vacancies for Leics Walking Guides

Think that you know about your local area? Passionate about its history? Why not share your passion and become a tour guide for visitors to Leicester and Leicestershire?

Leicester Shire Promotions – the Destination Management Organisation responsible for promoting Leicester and Leicestershire to visitors – is launching a scheme to train new walking guides and is looking for interested individuals to participate.

The aim is to train 12 new guides who will provide enjoyable and entertaining tours for visitors and groups to the destination.  Training will concentrate on specific geographical areas of the county and once the training is complete, each guide will specialize in their own areas – eg Food and Drink in Melton.

The self-led training includes local history and how to develop and conduct tours. Training will be spread over five months and will be a combination of on-line, practical and expert led sessions.  Practical sessions will be held at weekends.

Training for each guide costs £500 however there are some bursaries available.

We need enthusiastic individuals who have an interest in the destination and its history, possess good people skills and have a welcoming and friendly attitude.

Once the training is complete, you will become a certified self employed guide, working closely with the Leicester Visitor Information Centre to promote and sell your tours.

The closing date for applications is Friday 25^th November.

We will be holding a Recruitment Day on Thursday 1^st December and the Introductory Day will be held on Tuesday 13^th December.
