8.00am Launch of Community Media Week 2011 in Town Hall Square – Citizens’ Eye is proud to announce a documentary film project called ‘20/Four 7′ - the aim is to produce a 20 minute documentary, made by four people leading small teams to capture the 7 days of Community Media Week. The final documentary will be premiered at Phoenix Square during the 2nd Leicester DocFilm Festival 20th-22nd January 2012.

8.30am Demon FM Breakfast Show – interview to discuss the start of Community Media Week 2-8th November and how people can get involved as volunteer ‘Community Reporters’.

9.30am-11.30am Get on Line – free internet taster sessions – still not sure how to use the internet or know what it can do for you?  Or maybe you know someone who like to try using the internet?  Then call into the Workers’ Educational Association IT room at 101 Hinckley Road, Leicester LE3 0TD (0116 255 6614).  Friendly, supportive sessions with free refreshments available too.

10.00am-12.30pm INO Mag - the news agency for all aspects of the Criminal Justice System is holding its regional conference at St Martins House.

* including 1.30pm-3.00pm Real Voices Consultancy - the INO Mag editor will be leading an open networking session on aspects of life inside prison. FREE to attend and open to all.

10.00-12.00 Creative Coffee – meet community reporters who are attending this fortnightly networking event in the Screen Lounge of the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Session. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer at the 2012 DocFilm Festival (20-22 January) please drop in to find out more information

10.00am-10.30am BBC Big Screen (Humberstone Gate) – we will be interviewing community reporters ‘live’ at the BBC Big Screen. Our challenge is to get communities across city & county to use the ‘Green Button‘ during the following 7 days to submit community news and looking ahead to the Community Media Centre 2012 project to encourage community reporting during the build up to London 2012.

12.00 – 12.30pm Phoenix Square – Come along to see how the Citizens’ Eye iPhone app works in partnership with CuttlefishSean Clark will be demonstrating the app on his iPhone & iPad in the Screen Lounge – the community reporters will learn how to use it effectively and the various elements of the Citizens’ Eye site that are utilised to power it. Functions will include feeds from You Tube, Flickr & Twitter. Sean will discuss the next step of its development and including andriod & blackberry versions. Community Reporters will interview Sean about QR Codes and discuss other apps developed by Cuttlefish and Empedia including Pineapster, The Spark Children’s Arts Festival & Summer Sundae.

12.30pm-2.30pm Phoenix Square - Community Media Training School volunteers will be running an ‘open’ drop in social media session for anyone wishing to find out about being a Community Reporter or ‘how to’ use social media. Eg. Blogging, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, Ipadio.

3.00pm-5.00pm Community Journalism Course – participants will be attending the Phoenix Square Film & Digital Media Centre as part of their 10 week course at Adult Education for ‘How To’ facebook & twitter workshops. Community Reporters will be on hand to support residents from city Wards planning to have newsletters and offering hints and tips. Come along if your community group wants help to plan your community media newsletters.

4.0pm-5.00pm Demon FM Studio Tour – volunteers interested in the new Citizens’ Eye Radio project that opens in the Adult Education College (former Central Lending Library) from November can join a tour of the Demon FM studios in DMU’s Queens Building. Email editor@citizenseye.org if you wish to join the tour.

5.45pm-6.00pm Down Not Out news agencyAction Homeless, a local charity dealing with homelessness will be announcing an exciting funding development in partnership with Citizens’ Eye. The project has received a £140,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund which will go towards training for men and women with a history of sleeping rough to be citizen journalists. This will take place in the Screen Lounge at Phoenix Square.

6.00pm-8.00pm Speedmatching at Phoenix Square – speedmatching events are free networking opportunities where representatives from not-for-profit organisations get to meet face-to-face with media professionals (advisers) looking to volunteer their time. Organised in partnership with the Media Trust.

* Includes networking event for potential members of the new Leicester Media Network – a cooperative approach to local media by Citizens Eye with lead partners FD2D, Demon FM and Cuttlefish.

Filmmakers Showcase in Screen Room – once again for the 7 days of Community Media Week the Screen Room has been secured to offer local filmmakers a ‘free’ 15 minute showcase for new films or host a first large screen viewing for community groups.  The first local filmmaker to have a showcase is Hannah Day and it starts at 6.30pm.

Bill Newsinger, Keith Allott, Victor Gonzales, Steve Friendship and James Black have all provided films for screening. If you are a local filmmaker and you want to discuss taking a 15 minute slot please email editor@citizenseye.org
