7.45am-9.15am Coffee Republic – Join us for a breakfast ‘Community Conversation‘ at a Community News Cafe in the Coffee Republic shop on Granby Street. Find out about the Community Reporters 2012 project and how you can get involved.
* Chamber of Commerce members are invited to attend this ‘early bird’ Community News Cafe and ask any questions they have about social media and it’s uses in their businesses. Do you want to attract new customers and retain existing ones? Do your clients know what you do for local charities or people in your community? Social media is a great way to interact with local community groups that you maybe interested in supporting or providing unwanted stock to. Citizens Eye is interested in receiving your news about how your company supports local individuals, groups or charities. 10.00am-12.00pm Adult Education - Community Reporters will be based in the Belvoir Street building (former Central Lending Library) at the Community Information Point operated by Citizens Eye. Community Media Training School volunteers will be running an ‘open’ drop in social media session for anyone wishing to find out about being a Community Reporter or ‘how to’ use social media. Eg. Blogging, Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, Ipadio. Please drop in to discuss how your community organisation or group can use the website to get your news and views known to a wider audience.
10.00am-12.00pm Coffee Morning @ St Matthews Centre – for deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafened and Deafblind people from BME (Black, minority and Ethnic) communities. All ages welcome. Chat with people in a similar situation. Interpreters and staff from Action Deafness will be present to help with any issues you may have. Free coffee, tea and biscuits provided! Every 2 weeks on Thursday morning – next event on 17th November

12.30-1.30pm VAL Reception – a special community news cafe at VAL to explain volunteering opportunities in Leicester & Leicestershire during 2012 at the Community Media Centre 2012 project – register as a volunteer through the ‘Sport@VAL’ Inspire Mark project.

3.00-4.00pm Adult Education (former Central Lending Library) – tour of the facility by Chris Minter of Adult Education / LASALS – the Citizens’ Eye news agency will have volunteers talking about the new internet based community radio station called ‘Citizens Eye Radio‘ with the technical support of Demon FM will have volunteers ‘on air’ and discussing how to get involved.
4.00pm-5.00pm Police Webchat – representative from The 2 young peoples news agency, Wave Club, Leicester Children’s Council and VAL’s ACE Project will be meeting to plan their ‘live’ webchat with the Leicestershire Police Chief Constable Simon Cole on Thursday 10th November – this will be recorded at Phoenix Square.
4.00-5.00pm Leicester Mercury – workshop to introduce people to the Mercury newsroom and how their contributions will be used. An insight into ‘How To’ become a part of the Community Reporters 2012 project and basic overview of media law etc. Please register your interest by email. editor@citizenseye.org
5.30pm-7.30pm Our Leicester Day – feedback session for event held in Leicester Market on Sunday 11th September. Hosted by Citizens Eye at Phoenix Square in the Screen Lounge. Please come along with your feedback from the event.
7.30pm-8.30pm Human Rights In Focus – a showcase of short films with discussion. This event follows on from our International Day Against Hate Crime event on Friday 28th October at Phoenix Square in partnership with Stamp It Out and Leicestershire Police. Leicester’s Amnesty group are holding a 1 day film festival at Phoenix Square on Saturday 10th December to mark Human Rights Day. Filmmakers Showcase in Screen Room – once again for the 7 days of Community Media Week the Screen Room has been secured to offer local filmmakers a ‘free’ 15 minute showcase for new films or host a first large screen viewing for community groups. Bill Newsinger, Keith Allott, Victor Gonzales, Steve Friendship and James Black have all provided films for screening. If you are a local filmmaker and you want to discuss taking a 15 minute slot please email editor@citizenseye.org

Community internet & FM radio stations will be broadcasting regular interviews and news updates throughout Community Media Week. These include Oak FM, Hilltop Radio, Demon FM, EAVA FM, Kohinoor Radio FM, Sabras Radio …. more joining regularly.
