Active Together Melton has announced details of the new Spring/Summer 2010 Seniors Walking Program for senior walkers in Melton.

The sessions are very popular and a great way to keep fit and meet new people. They include two types of walk, which are decided by the heart levels of the participants.

The One Heart Level walks last between, on average, 30 minutes to one hour on good surfaces and fairly flat routes with no stiles.

The Two Heart Level walks are up to 90 minutes covering a variety of paths, which maybe uphill and over stiles. Paths may be uneven or muddy in places, and appropriate footwear must be worn.

Level One and Two walks always take place on Thursdays, starting from April 1st. Both walks start from various locations, including Melton Country Park, Woolsthorpe Canal, Rhubarb Island and Morkery Wood, and are suitable to newcomers to walking.

Both walks have front and back leaders so all walkers can find their own pace. There is no need to book as anybody who’s interested can just turn up on the day.

Liz Cresswell, Physical activity coordinator for Melton, said: “The sessions are very popular and are a great way to keep fit and meet new people. The fun, friendly and effective walking sessions are ideal for those looking to become fitter and healthier.”
