WOMEN in the city are being reminded to get any unusual symptoms around their time of the month checked out during an awareness week.
NHS Leicester City is supporting national Endometriosis Week by reminding women in the city to get any unusual changes such as excessive pain and heavy bleeding during their period checked out by their GP.
The awareness week runs from Monday March 8 to Sunday March 14.
Dr Bhupendra Modi, a GP at Northern Heights Medical Centre, Off Lewisher Road, Leicester, said: “Endometriosis is a very painful condition and most women are diagnosed between the age of 25 and 40. Symptoms of the condition can include pain in the lower back and pelvis, heavy periods and tiredness.
“If left untreated, endometriosis can lead to ovarian cysts and even infertility so its important women get any worrying symptoms checked out as early as possible. This can rule out other conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease or sexually transmitted infections.”
