Editor – Today is International Women’s Day. It may be 2010 but women around the world still struggle to gain the equality they not only deserve and have a right to but in fact have legislation to ensure it happens. I read an article yesterday that said the best way to support this day is with a public holiday like they have in China. Who knows what impact this would have but I know that all our female volunteers contribute equally to our 11 news agencies.

The 100th anniversary of the occasion, marked with the slogan ‘Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All’, will see rallies, seminars and assemblies take place around the globe.
So, what makes 8th March so significant?
First proposed in 1910 and launched in 1911, International Women’s Day came about because of a woman named Clara Zetkin (leader of the ‘Women’s Office’ for Germany’s Social Democratic Party), who thought every country should mark an annual Women’s Day to press for her gender’s demands.
