Ride Leaders Wanted!

Are you a keen cyclist? Do you cycle for a club? Do you see yourself as a leader? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, maybe you could become a Ride Leader.

Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport and the Active Together project are hosting a British Cycling Level 2 Ride Leader Course at Loughborough University this May.

The two day course, which qualifies participants to lead rides independently, will take place on Saturday May 15th and Sunday May 16th, 2010.

If you and/or your club could help to get more people active by leading rides linked to your club, this FREE course may be just for you. With our links to local clubs, we hope that participants will be encouraged to join clubs and cycle on a regular basis.

Andy Reed MP, Chair of Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, said: “As spring is officially here, what better way to help your local community to get active by offering cycling. This will allow new group to be established and existing groups to grow their numbers”.

Ride leaders will be supported by Active Together to coordinate and deliver rides and may receive payment for leading rides too. Affiliation to British Cycling may also be funded by Active Together.

Active Together aims to increase physical activity levels of adults (aged 16+) in Leicestershire. A team of 15 Physical Activity Development Officers are working across the county and hope to coordinate a series of leisure rides during 2010. But, to deliver these rides, a team of leaders are needed.

Please note Ride Leader licenses cannot be issued until leaders have completed a first aid qualification. First Aid courses are taking place in Leicester on Saturday 6th March and 12th June as part of the Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport Coach Education Programme – please see www.lrsport.org.uk to book and for further information.
