Brady Bunch housing proves to be popular

Brady Bunch housing proves to be popular thumbnail

Two unusual homes released for sale in Beaumont Leys this week are proving popular with fans of the Brady Bunch.

The peculiar multi-level homes – which architects call staked split level – reflect the family home in the 1960’s American television sitcom.

The properties on Strasbourg Drive – named The Chorley, and Earls Grange – are over five levels high.

Saleena Draper, sales advisor at Earls Grange said: “The design gained a huge following as a result of the sitcom because people saw how a split-level house worked well for Mike and Carol Brady’s large family and wanted to try out the quirky design for themselves.”

Split-level homes were popular builds in the 1950s and 1960s because they could be built on difficult sloping sites.

Ms Draper said: “Soon the affordability and flexible space the builds created were so popular that they became a part of a brand new style of architecture.”

The properties, which were constructed by Lovell’s, opened to offers last week and one has already been sold.

The Chorley, which boasts a master bedroom spanning the width of the property and features a Juliette balcony, which has already been snapped up.

The homebuyer, who cannot be named, is expected to move into the quirky three-bedroom home in June.

Earls Grange, which is still for sale is priced at £127,950, but could be purchased for £95,962 as part of a shared equity scheme.

The public have also been invited to look around the unusual builds.
