Rendall Munroe Becomes Sporting Ambassador for Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport.
Leicester’s boxing star Rendall ‘2Tone’ Munroe was officially launched as the Sporting Ambassador of Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport at his gym in Leicester on Monday.

At the launch Rendall spoke to local pupils from Crown Hills Community College and encouraged them to get active, stay active and maybe try a new sport.

The European and Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Champion was born and raised in the city and has stayed loyal to his roots, even continuing his day job as a bin man.

An extremely hardworking individual, both inside and outside of the ring, Rendall shares LRS’s genuine passion to get more young people and people of all ages involved in sport and physical activity across the region.

With a World title fight well within his reach, Munroe has remained completely down to earth and a great supporter of local sport. As part of his role as Ambassador, Rendall will attend and speak at local key events and throw his Super Bantamweight behind local programmes and campaigns, including the Leicester City 3 x 30 minute pledge and the Active Together programme.

Rendall is delighted with the role and the opportunity to put something back into the community, whilst helping to inspire young people to take up sport and get more active.

“It’s a great honour to be named as a Sporting Ambassador for Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport and I’m really passionate about young people staying fit and healthy. Sport helps keep you focused, build up a good work ethic and is a great way to meet new people.”

Andy Reed MP, Chair of Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, sees Rendall as the ideal role model.

“Having the support of Rendall, who has such a high profile and achieved sporting excellence through hard work and commitment, is real coup for Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport. We are delighted that he is able to support our work throughout Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland.”

Rendall Munroe Biography

Rendall Munroe is the bonafide Cinderella Man of British boxing. The 29-year-old European champion defended his crown for the fifth time, against tough Italian Simone Maludrottu at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham in bout that doubled up as an eliminator for Toshiaki Nishioka’s WBC crown. Britain currently has three boxers holding major world titles – David Haye, Amir Khan and Carl Froch – and Munroe is on course to be the next. Part of Munroe’s appeal is that he has been unaffected by his success.

The team behind Rendall Munroe believe the Leicester bin man’s reward for outpointing Maludrottu, could be a meeting with WBC champion Toshiaki Nishioka, from Japan. The victory puts Munroe in the mandatory challenger sport, but it could mean a long journey for a tilt at the title in the Far East.

Rendall Monroe is a Leicester born super-bantamweight boxer and currently holds the super-bantamweight Commonwealth title. The 29-year-old, who also has a day job as a bin man, had his first pro fight in Sept 2003 when he stopped Joel Viney in the third round in Nottingham.

After 10 wins he challenged Andy Morris for the British Featherweight title and lost a 12 round decision in Edinburgh. Munroe’s first title win came three fights later when he beat Marc Callaghan for the vacant English Super Bantamweight title.

Munroe shot to fame when he upset the form book and defeated touted Spaniard, Kiko Martinez in 2008. Since the win Munroe has defended three times against Frenchman Salem Bouaita, Armenian Arsen Martirosian and Italy’s Fabrizio Trotta.

On 27 February 2009, Rendall faced Kiko Martinez for the second time after the Spaniard had been installed as the mandatory challenger. Munroe won a unanimous decision.

On 2 May 2009, Munroe captured the Commonwealth title with a points victory over Isaac Netty. Rendall won his last fight after defeating Simone Maludrottu on a points decision last November in Nottingham.
