Free Fun Tree Planting Event Aylestone Meadows Sunday 14th February
The Spark Children’s Arts Festival is calling for green-fingered children to help plant a tree and join in with free fun outdoors activities at Aylestone Meadows on Sunday 14th February.  As part of the Open Minded Play Spaces project with Leicester City Council and with additional funding from the Big Lottery, The Spark needs help to create an orchard……with plenty of fun festivities along the way.

As well as helping to plant an orchard, between 2.30pm and 4pm on Sunday 14th February, children can meet the ‘Apple King’ puppet and try out some games in the play space.  There’ll be an opportunity to help weave a willow arch for the entrance to the storytelling area.  The Spark also needs your suggestions for names for the new Play Space – His Royal Highness ‘The Apple King’ will give an apple to everyone who comes up with  a suggestion and will come back for a naming ceremony to be held later in the year.  With games and activities and a fun procession led by the Apple King, what better way to venture outside and do something free, fun, green and earthy?

12 fruit trees will be planted at the new Play Space which is now starting to take shape at Aylestone Meadows.  The project is designed to be a natural, landscaped area in keeping with the existing environment.  The local residents have been integral to the design of the spaces with the consultation process having begun in Autumn 2009.  The ‘Planted Playline’ is developing into a winding path, and will be planted with a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers, creating circles for playing in, mounds and logs to climb on and through and three swings of different heights.  The Open Minded Play Spaces are designed to be inspiring areas for children – stimulating imaginative play – but they will also be there for the community to use for small scale events throughout the year

Families wishing to join in on Sunday 14th February should assemble in the car park at Aylestone Meadows at 2.15pm.  For more information please visit www.sparkfestival.co.uk , call 0116 261 6893 or email admin@sparkfestival.co.uk.

The Spark Children’s Arts Festival 2010 will take place between 31st May and 13th June at venues across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
