Snibston will be hosting a fun-for-all ‘Robots Live at Christmas’ event between Christmas and New Year. To be held on Monday 28th December, the one-day spectacular will be a magnificent and metallic celebration of all things fierce, fighting and fun – it will delight children from 5 to 95!
The free event, hosted by Snibston and produced by Robots Live! Ltd, will showcase a variety of robots which are perfectly engineered to enter combat. From ant-size fighting machines which will display their warrior warfare in a mini arena, to football-playing, mechanical marvels that visitors can control to test their scoring skills, through to larger-than-life metal beasts which will be displayed for viewing around the foyer area – the event will have it all.
Formed in 2001, Robots Live! LTD is the UK’s largest, and most successful, live robot combat event organiser. For years the team has been raising the bar of robotic entertainment, many have tried to copy, but none have succeeded.
Having appeared on the BBC’s Scrapheap Challenge Show, and having headlined at major exhibitions and events including the NEC and London Excel, the team have become a well-known force to be reckoned with and are celebrities within the North West Leicestershire area.
Mike Young, director of Robots Live! Ltd said “We have spent the last 8 years really developing the business, originally a hobby, and are now at the top of our game. It’s some years since we last visited Snibston to showcase our robots and we are delighted to be able to hold an event there again. Last time we had about 2000 people visit and it was a huge success. We hope this Christmas will be the same with people coming to check out our latest robots – it’ll be a nice change for people after all the festivities of the week before.”
Ernie White, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet Member for Museums, said: “It just goes to show how versatile Snibston is. One minute there’s a miners’ gala, then Auster aircrafts, then Santa and now Robots in combat. It’ll be a great family day, perfect for the school holidays, but educational too – everything Snibston is about. I am sure the event will be most enjoyable; it is, after all, that little bit different”.
The event will start at 10.30am and run until 4pm. The robot event is free but standard museum entry applies (£6.75 adult, £4.50 child, under 5s go free).
