Trail for low dose Naltrexone

Dr Chris Steele MBE, the UK’s TV celebrity Dr, will take time out of his busy schedule to deliver the above petition with supporting documentation to No. 10 Downing Street on Tuesday 1st December at 4pm.

Dr Chris joined LDNNow as their Ambassador in August 2009 after Dr Tom Gilhooly (Essential Health Clinic in Glasgow) introduced Dr Chris to LDNNow. Both Drs firmly believe first and foremost in the Hippocratic oath that all medical professionals agree to when getting a licence to practice medicine, and that is First Do No Harm. LDN does no harm! Please watch the 5 minute video of Dr Chris on the LDNNow.com website.

The LDNNow Campaign gathered such momentum during the year that its petition to the Government to fund trials for this low cost effective drug, exceeded its target of getting 10,000 signatures by finishing 4th in the health category and 14th overall out of all petitions with over 13,000 signatures.

The signatures supporting this petition were collected by a nationwide effort in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. The fact that this number was exceeded by over 30% is testament indeed of the importance of LDN to a great many people.

As a result of the LDNNow campaign, and Dr Chris throwing his weight behind this important effective treatment, twice as many people in the UK alone are taking LDN (approx 6,000) compared to this time last year.  The demand is there, the patients evidence is there, clinical evidence too but this out of patent drug is being ignored.

Most people find out about LDN through their own personal research and then only get it on private prescription. Dr Chris Steele hopes to change this so this drug can at the very least be offered as front line treatment on the NHS to all who suffer from an autoimmune disease, cancers, etc.

Low Dose Naltrexone has the potential to treat many of the most threatening diseases we face, such as Cancer, MS, HIV/Aids, Fibromyalgia, Ulcerative Colitis/Crohns, Rheumatoid Arthritis and other auto immune conditions, yet costs a fraction of the cost of the conventional approaches at under £1 a day. It could possibly break the stranglehold of the drug companies on the funds of the NHS which currently runs into billions of pounds per year for Cancers alone.  As Dr Chris Steele says, funds saved can be redirected to address other pressing needs in the NHS.  Someone with cancer faces some very dangerous therapy options, so the argument to try a safe option first is irrefutable.

LDN costs £380/year per patient so with 6,000 people using LDN, these people already save the NHS almost £100 million a year which in itself is enough to fund the trials.  The average cost of someone suffering from diseases such as Crohn’s, MS, etc, costs in the region of £9,000-£15,000/year per patient.

The time has come to fund the trials for this important drug and end the apathy of a system that leaves low cost drugs floundering when they could be saving money and lives. It is safer than Paracetamol, so LDN should be offered as a first line of defence. Naltrexone is already approved by the FDA in high doses ie 50 mg for heroin addiction and alcoholism and is prescribed to pregnant women for this use without risk to the baby.

Therefore there is no dispute over its safety at a dose of a fraction of this amount ie between 1mg to 4.5mg!

The handing in of this petition by Dr Chris Steele is an important time for the NHS, and one we hope will save a lot of lives/misery for a lot of people and their families.  Don’t miss what we believe will be a life changing milestone for all.

Therefore we would like you to join Dr Chris Steele and document this event with photographs and a story. When something this important is going on – to quote Rosenthal – Silence is a Lie!

Myself and Celia and Margaret Anne from LDN Now Scotland will be at the Public Petitions Committee meeting at 2PM tomorrow in the Scottish Parliament to argue the case for universal LDN provision on the Scottish NHS and for funding for trials.

Low Dose Naltrexone has been found helpful in treating HIV/AIDS, certain types of cancer, and a host of autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders–all at minimal cost and with minimal side effects. It is surely one of the greatest discoveries in modern medicine since the advent of penicillin. For more information, visit
