Time Team’s Mick Aston has met with young archaeologists during a visit to the University of Leicester
Members of Leicester’s Young Archaeologists Club met with the acclaimed archaeologist who was in the School of Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester to meet with Leicester’s next generation of archaeologists.

It was an opportunity for the children to hear Mick talk about his career in archaeology, his influences and of course his time spent working with Channel 4’s Time Team.  The young archaeologists also got the chance to ask him some questions.

The reception was organised by Mrs Debbie Miles-Williams, who is the Outreach Officer at the School of Archaeology and Ancient History.  The School has an active outreach programme to help the wider Leicester community to get involved in archaeology.

Mrs Miles-Williams commented: ”It was a fantastic opportunity for our members to meet such a well known archaeologist as Mick Aston, who inspired all of us present at the meeting – not just the children – to appreciate the value of archaeology and the work that archaeologists do to further our knowledge of the past.”

The Young Archaeologists Club is run by Pete Liddle, who is Leicestershire County Council’s Community Archaeologist.  For more information about the club, please visit the Young Archaeologists Club website www.britarch.ac.uk/yac/.

Mick Aston is an active supporter of the Young Archaeologists Clubs; he has helped set up a YAC branch in Bristol and Bath and has been involved in activities around the country.  The reception was a great opportunity for the young archaeologists to meet and talk with their role model.
