Leicester-shire Rainbow Voices, the newly formed Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered choir performed as part of a mass choir who were part of a world record attempt to produce the largest ever performance of the Hallelujah Chorus by George Frederick Handel as part of the BBC Children in Need appeal .
The local performance took place at Leicester Cathedral at lunchtime on Friday 20th November; this event will be combined with many other similar events by BBC local radio stations and BBC Radio 3
The Rainbow Voices were part of a mass choir of over 400 people singing together in Leicester, many from much more experienced choirs and individuals across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland; including the well known ‘Lancaster Boys Choir’ who rose to fame in the second series of the BBC series ‘The Choir’
The performance was led by Stephen Foster the Cannon Precentor of the cathedral .
Speaking after the event Adam Bacon the acting Chair of the choir said “I am delighted to be part of this record breaking attempt and am hugely proud that the LGBT community in Leicestershire was represented in this, one of the most culturally diverse cities in the UK.
Leicester-shire Rainbow Voices will next be appearing at LGBT venues across the City on Wednesday 16th December when they will be performing their ‘Make the Yuletide Gay’ concerts – A light hearted canter upto Xmas.
All these events are free and everyone is welcome to come along and join in with the Xmas carols and songs, in what will be a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
