Green Opportunity for Leicester Graduates

Green Opportunity for Leicester Graduates thumbnail

Unemployed female science and engineering graduates have an opportunity to learn how to become entrepreneurs, improve their skills and enhance their CVs whilst earning an income in a new Leicester-based project.

GreenSTEM is a new initiative launched to help unemployed female STEM graduates in Leicester and Leicestershire to:

  • develop innovative business ideas for green-themed products and services
  • support each other in a network
  • receive training in business, communication, web and marketing skills
  • experience presenting ideas to the public and businesses

GreenSTEM has been awarded funding for 6 months salary for each of the green entrepreneurs participating in the project.

The project is especially interested in engaging women from ethnic backgrounds or with a disability.

Announced during GreenSTEM Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 this project will culminate in a celebration and competition in a year’s time.

Phil Brown from the British Science Association and a GreenSTEM founder “We will offer participants training and support to develop a green idea or enterprise, using their STEM education, and develop a marketing plan, talk to customers, really test out the idea. Finally they will enter a competition during Enterprise Week in 2010, which should gain the winner significant publicity. Their self-confidence and independence should be greatly increased by taking part in this project.”

Applications should be made as soon as possible via the on-line application form.
