Why wait until the New Year to make that fitness resolution? The Charnwood Women’s Running Network, in association with Active Together, is here to help now!
The ‘Women’s Running Network’ was founded in Devon in 1998 with aim of the inspiring women of all ages to run for fun and fitness. Their mission is ‘To provide all women, whatever their age, size or ability, the opportunity to run together to improve their health, fitness, confidence and safety.’
This philosophy inspired Thurcaston local Nikki Love to become the network’s first group leader in the Charnwood area, and she is keen to spread the word.
Nikki said: “It’s such a great and simple philosophy, and running is such a great and simple form of exercise. Since starting these groups, I have met women in their 20’s through to women in their 60’s, and they are all looking for the same thing – they want to get fitter, have fun and meet other likeminded women.”
Although an Aussie import, Nikki has been running the hills and footpaths of Charnwood for the past five years. Her local knowledge of great running paths and her genuine passion for running and the outdoors will ensure the runs are enjoyable and have a positive affect on the participant’s fitness and wellbeing.
She added: “If you think gyms are intimidating or too expensive, this is your chance to dust off your trainers, get out into the fresh air, and make lots of new friends. For the cost of one month’s gym membership you can join the ‘Women’s Running Network’ for a whole year.”
Nikki’s running groups for women of all ages and running abilities meet from Monday to Friday throughout the Charnwood area.
The Beginner Groups, for those who have never run before, meet at 9.30am on Mondays at Nanpantan Sports Ground, 11.15am on Tuesdays at the Station Road car park Quorn in and 11.15am on Wednesdays at Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel.
The Elite Beginner Group, for those who can run three miles or more, also takes place on Mondays in Nanpantan, 9.30am on Thursdays at Jubilee Hall in Anstey and 11.15am on Fridays at Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel.
There are also intermediate groups for those with a good fitness base and can run between 45 and 60 minutes at varied pace and incline. These take place at Nanpantan Sports Ground at 11am on Mondays, Jubilee Hall in Anstey at 9.30am on Thursdays and Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel at 11.15am on Fridays.
