NIACE is undertaking a project which seeks to identify appropriate Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) approaches for migrants who are third-country nationals.  Third country nationals are a diverse group including for example:

  • non-UK born spouses of UK nationals
  • dependant family members of people granted refugee status or humanitarian protection
  • people entering the UK as ‘domestic workers’
  • people and their dependant family members entering the UK through the points based system for the purpose of work or study

Providing helpful support to third-country nationals can be a significant challenge for IAG/Careers Advice providers.  A range of factors contrubute to this including the complexity of their eligibility for different education funding, the isolation they face due to their circumstances or communication barriers.

You are invited to participate in the piloting of a one day training programme developed by NIACE and to give us your valuable feedback on its effectiveness.  The training objectives are to:

  • give an insight into the circumstances of third country nationals
  • describe their training and employment motivations
  • clarify their LSC, ESF and HE funding entitlements
  • describe helpful approaches to engagement
  • discuss how their IAG needs can be met

The training is suitable for all IAG advisors and managers working in different settings and sectors and would be particularly appropriate for:

  • new IAG advisers who would benefit from the opportunity to study a particular group of clients  in depth
  • IAG advisers with a particular interest in support of people of non-UK origins
  • Managers responsible for the development of new provision for ethnic minority communities

There are two opportunities for you/your staff to attend this training, on  4th or  9th of December ‘09 at NIACE Renaissance House, 20 Princess Road West, Leicester, LE1 6TP.  The training starts at 9.30 with refreshments and registration and finishes at 1.30 with a working lunch.  This training is offered on the first come first serve basis and we would be most grateful if you could complete the attached booking

If you are interested in attending this event please complete this Booking Form by Friday 27th of November ‘09.  This form can be saved and returned by email to: sue.parkins@niace.org.uk or printed and posted to: Sue Parkins, NIACE, 21 De Montfort Street, Leicester, LE1 7GE

I currently manage a team of advisors who provide advice & guidance to ethnic minority commnities. I have also worked as an advisor within the target group. I would like to participate in this training, so that I can then share it with the team.
