An event for disabled people and people with long term health conditions living in the County of Leicestershire
Are you a disabled person or a person with a long term health condition? If yes, then this event is for you. If you are in receipt of social care services from Leicestershire County Council or are likely to need support in the near future then you can take this opportunity to help shape the changes that are taking place.

In 2005 a commitment was made by central government to review the way that services are provided to disabled people or people with long term health impairments. This commitment acknowledges for the first time the need and real benefit of involving disabled people and people with long term health condition in working together to bring about change.

Public services have traditionally been designed and mainly run by non-disabled people. By working with LCIL which is a User Led Organisation, Leicestershire County Council is seeking to create a new method of engagement from which individuals will continue to work to support the changes that are being introduced. Changes that will give you greater choice and control in your life and the way you live. This is a major step forward so we encourage you to attend.

User-Led Organisations are organisations led and controlled by disabled people. They enable disabled people to have choice and control over the support they need to go about their daily lives, they are critical to independent living.

The change that will be discussed on the day is part of the Personalisation Agenda and refers to services traditionally received from the Adult Social Services Department. It is considered to be one of the biggest changes to have taken place since 1948.

The Involvement Event will take place on the 2nd of December 2009. The event will take place at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester (maps and directions will be sent out to you when we confirm your place at the event).
