Each week thousands of older people visit the Age Concern building known as Clarence House on Humberstone Gate, Leicester to participate in a range of activities that greatly enhance quality of life.
Commenting Mr Anthony Donovan the Executive Director of Age Concern Leicester Shire & Rutland said “Over the years we have tried to develop the building into a one stop shop for older people and their carers. The facility is now envied by Age Concerns all over the country.”
The activities taking place at Clarence House are many and varied and include all sorts of learning opportunities – there are classes in IT, art and craft and languages.
For those people wishing to stay fit a number of fitness sessions take place throughout the week with dance groups also meeting for exercise and to socialise.
On a daily basis a team of specialist Information & Advice Advisors are available to help with any enquiry and to assist people to claim benefit – last year the charity claimed just over £3,000,000 of benefit money for older people.
A thriving restaurant also operates throughout the week where users of the building can enjoy light refreshment or a good quality midday meal.
To fund the many services that operate within Clarence House the charity is heavily reliant on its charity shop which is based within the building.
With the new shop now extending its opening times, volunteers are urgently needed on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
