The Tony Blair Faith Foundation is collaborating with the Three Faiths Forum and the Coexistence Trust to deliver a multi-faith themed event. The group will be visiting six different university campuses across the country to develop an informal national network of students from faith societies, and will be at the University of Leicester on Monday 9 November from 6pm.

The event will kick-off with a workshop session exploring how different faiths can work together to solve global poverty, hoping to increase student’s faith literacy and encourage students to engage in multi-faith encounter in constructive and positive ways.

This will then be followed by a debate on the financial crisis, asking: ‘Should we sort out ourselves before saving the world?’ The debate will be chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mark Thompson alongside Oxfam’s Political Campaigner and Team Leader, Maya Segas, the CEO of STRIDE, David Brazier and Faiths Act Fellows and members of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, Michael Tweed and Bilal Hassam.

The evening will end with a meet-and-greet session, offering student groups the chance to promote themselves and sign up new members. This will be an informal hour for networking and discussion with light refreshments, held in the City Lounge, Charles Wilson Building.

Students’ Union Campaigns and Involvement Sabbatical Officer, Owen Jones, commented:
“This will be very beneficial to students as it will highlight common ground between all the different faith groups and hopefully they can all find a way from this event to move forward together to try and combat some of the world’s problems. Also, it may well have an additional benefit to students who are not of faith, but will be curious to see the similarities from the different faith groups.

“I am personally enjoying the chance to see all the different faith groups working together towards a common goal. Leicester has always been famed for being a shining beacon of multiculturalism and this is the perfect event to really show it off.”

The three-hour long event will begin at 6pm on Monday 9 November. The debate will be taking place in the Ken Edwards building and is open to all staff, students and members of the general public. Additional information about the organisations involved can be found via their websites: Tony Blair Faith Foundation, Three Faiths Forum and Coexistence Trust.
