(DMU), has received the highest levels of endorsement from industry bodies for its Accounting and Finance programme. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the largest and fastest-growing international professional accountancy body, has granted students in The Department of Accounting and Finance at DMU the maximum nine exemptions on the strength of its BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance professional degree programme.
The Accounting and Finance degree is one of only a few degrees in the UK to also be awarded accreditation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), with seven exemptions, and the Chartered Institute of Insurers (CII).
The Department of Accounting and Finance has over 800 undergraduate students and over 300 professional and postgraduate students. Staff offer a wealth of professional, industrial and academic experience in addition to professional qualifications. The department is recognised as a Quality Partner with CIMA and a Gold Provider with ACCA.
Recently the ICAEW assessed the University’s accounting provision and granted its Accounting and Finance degree four credits (Accounting, Assurance, Management Information and Principles of Taxation) for prior learning and invited the department to join them as a Partner-in-Learning.
The programme has also received 55 credits from the CII. Beverly Vickerstaff, Programme Leader, BA
(Hons) Accounting & Finance, at Leicester Business School, said: “These awards reflect the confidence of the professional bodies in the technical content and academic quality of the accounting and finance provision.
“These exemptions provide students with a fast-track route to professional qualification and,
as the professional bodies will only award exemptions if their own learning outcomes are met.
