There is more to unite us, than to separate us.”
We already know that Leicestershire’s citizens bring a vast diversity in terms of culture, faith, race and backgrounds but this project not only wants to showcase this in an original performance but to also engage the whole area by giving everyone a voice.

There is now an incredible amount of ways in which we can communicate with each other and this project will seek to share the stories that unite us in this area no matter what our age, our occupation, our family or our faith. This unique story sharing will not seek to hide from the difficulties we might have had but it will provide a voice to every area and language.

How many people stand at that same bus stop? Buy their paper from the same shop? How many can
remember their first steps into their primary school or into Filbert Street or local swimming baths?

This project will tour theatre and rural communities and will be accompanied by workshops and inset for local schools and groups providing everyone with the chance to see a live production that will show that it is not just geographical coincidences that unite us but also our experiences, knowledge, attributes and values.

Citizen 598 will work alongside the Local Authorities and faith and community groups across the region to collate a variety of stories, anecdotes and memories about how Leicestershire is their home, whether they were born here or have relocated here for whatever circumstance. These partnerships will also help identify those from every community that are interested in becoming part of the cast and crew for this project, thus offering a unique opportunity to people who may not usually have access to the arts or cultural work. This cast will work with the experienced directors of Citizen 598 in rehearsal to shape their vision and create an original performance piece.

Citizen 598 will seek to work alongside various key people and organisations to unite the various themes and objectives of current strategies from Leicester City Council’s Policy on Community Cohesion, Find Your Talent, Regional Cultural Strategy East Midlands and EMNGPS.
