Local Community Health Services
Patients, carers and anyone interested in finding out more – or giving their views – about local community health services are invited to go along to two Open Evenings organised by Leicester City Community Health Service (LCHHS).

Says LCCHS managing director Paul Miller: “This is an opportunity not only for local people to find out more about us and our services, but also to give us their views on how we can improve.

“Earlier this year, 95% of patients who completed our Annual Patient Satisfaction Survey rated our services as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’. Now we want the public to help us do even better.”

Visitors will be able get information on a range of LCCHS services for children and adults, such as community nursing and health visitors, therapy services and intermediate care. A team of specialist nurses will also be offering a variety of quick health checks including blood pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index) tests.

LCCHS will be highlighting some of its achievements and service innovations over 2008/09 including:

  • The opening of the Urgent Care Centre at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, which is now seeing almost 4,000 patients per month
  • The launch of a 24/7 telephone service to provide a single point of access to all community nursing services
  • The creation of the Rapid Intervention Team which provides intensive nursing care at home with a response time of 20 minutes

Anyone is welcome to attend the Open Evenings and talk to senior LCHHS managers and staff. The first Open Evening takes place on Thursday, 22nd October at Fullhurst Community College, Braunstone, from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. A second event will be held at The Highfields Centre on Wednesday, 25th November from 4.30pm – 7.00pm. No advance booking is required.

LCCHS is a major provider of community health services in the city and of specialist children’s healthcare in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was formed in January 2008 as the ‘arms length’ service provider for NHS Leicester City.
