Recession Busting Green Gifts

Centre for Alternative Technology launches xmas range. What could be a better present for a family member or friend than a present, which doesn’t only contribute to reducing green house gas emissions and saving the planet, but also saves them money? That is precisely the idea behind the Centre for Alternative Technology’s Xmas gifts. Beth Bennet who runs the mail order department at CAT says

“Green products are well made, ethical, durable and often save you money- they make fantastic presents, particularly in the current economic climate”

Favourites of CAT staff include the Efergy Elite, a new wireless smart meter that helps monitor and reduce your electricity usage. Alex Randall who works at CAT recently installed one in his house
“ It’s really easy to see how much energy you are using and how much it is costing- you pretty quickly start turning of that unneeded appliance!”

Other favourites include the outdoor solar powered fairy lights that include 100 lights and the ‘original log maker.’ The log maker uses old newspapers that you soak in water, place into a mould and squeeze. After complete drying, the log will burn as well as wood for up to an hour at a controlled rate in a fire grate or wood-burning stove.

As well as practical products, CAT mail order stocks a wide range of potential gifts including the Eco Media Player. A wind up and rechargeable video and music player with a 1.8″ colour screen and built-in mono loudspeaker- 60 seconds of winding gives up to 40 minutes of play time. From babies to grannies there is something green for everyone at the CAT Eco Store.
