The Domestic Violence Integrated response project (DVIRP) has recently achieved the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard, in recognition of the excellent work they do with volunteers.
Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for all organisations involving volunteers. Investing in Volunteers aims to improve the quality of the volunteering experience for all volunteers and for organisations to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by volunteers. Investing in Volunteers is managed by the UK Volunteering Forum and delivered by Volunteering England, Volunteer Development Scotland, Volunteer Development Agency in Northern Ireland and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.
DVIRP was assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved to excel in all aspects of working with its volunteers.
“I feel a lot more confident now that we’ve gone through an external rigorous quality assurance process such as the IIV that our in-house volunteering program is reflective of good practices, and it also gave me a chance to get our volunteers’ views on how they felt they were being supported throughout their volunteering. Achieving the award has definitely made the process worthwhile as it has given us the recognition and credibility that what we do at DVIRP for our volunteers is good, and the positive feedback from our volunteers during the assessment have further endorsed it!” Mega Arumugam, Adults Services Manager
Consultations were carried out with all volunteers with regards to the processes and indicators involved within the IIV process.
“Being a part of the IIV process made volunteers feel that they were being listened to and that their views and voices mattered in structuring and improving the volunteering program” DVIRP Volunteer
In recognition of the excellent commitment of its volunteers, DVIRP also recently celebrated its volunteers with a specially dedicated Thank You evening at Voluntary Action Leicester. It was an evening packed of volunteers and trustees award presentations and gave a chance for volunteers and staff to get-together. One of the highlights of the evening were the recognition of two of DVIRP student volunteers, Eliot Raymond-Taggert and Jade Stewart who were recently awarded the Volunteering England Gold Award, which is the only national student volunteering award that recognizes the achievement, dedication and leadership within their volunteering work. The Gold Award is a prestigious mark of excellence in student volunteering.
The type of commitment that DVIRP gets from its volunteers reaffirms what Winston Churchill once quoted of volunteering – We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give….
