July 2009 will see The Y Theatre transformed into The Lyric Lounge – a unique performance space celebrating the power of live literature. For seven days, the Lounge will bring laughter, lyrics, music and visual magic to one of Leicester’s finest live venues as part of the cultural programme for the Special Olympics.
If you want to come along and have a one to one about your writing or your reading then you can book a session with Bookdoctor & Poet Alison Dunne, Festival Patron Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze or Artistic Director, Lydia Towsey.

Writer Development -
There are several writer specific opportunities within the Lyric Lounge programme:
Saturday 25th
11am – 1 pm

Poet and editor Wayne Burrows introduces a reading from The Protein Songs, a sequence of poems commissioned by Retina Dance Company for adaptation into choreography in their 2006 performance Eleven Stories For The Body, Distance To Our Soul, followed by film footage of the dance created from the words.
After coffee, there will be an opportunity to hear about Staple magazine, and all are invited to ask such awkward questions as what editors look for, how work gets chosen, and why running a small press so often resembles a kind of controlled chaos.
Sunday 26th

Coffee and Characters. FREE
Writer and Hello Hubmariner, Aimee Wilkinson and Nottingham Writers Studio’s Ali Stoneman bring you ‘Character Box’, a practical fiction writing workshop designed to get the creative juices flowing, inviting you to discuss the different aspects of a character and inspire you with a different approach to find the beginnings to a whole new story.
