If you have any spare Barbie or Ken dolls in need of an extreme makeover, then get in touch with librarian Ian Burley.
Ian will be leading an unusual activity as part of this year’s Weird Fiction summer reading scheme organised by the council’s library service.
“Our weird fiction theme will embrace some of the more esoteric ends of young fiction. We’ll be looking at and having fun with elements of horror, sci-fi and fantasy writing and running some suitable weird workshops.”
And that’s where the Barbies come in.
Ian is hoping to ‘recover’ any unwanted Barbies and Kens – or similar dolls – for a workshop recreating scenes from favourite works of weird fiction such as Stephanie Meyer’s popular Twilight saga. It’s a project Ian evocatively calls ‘The Twilight home for nasty dolls.’
Dolls donated will be altered in irreversible ways and will not be returned. They may be used in displays or disposed of in other ways. Any donation made is based on this understanding.
“We’re hoping to put together some fabulous displays and are expecting great things from the Barbie vampire makeover competition. What better future could an unwanted Barbie wish for?”
